Why I’m Nervous About the New England Patriots

Tom Brady directing trafficSaturday night is the night of the New England Patriots‘ last game of the season. For the first time in NFL history there is a team with a shot at a perfect regular season (16-0). This game is being simulcast over three networks (again, for the first time in NFL history – and only the second simulcast ever). During the game the Patriots will break the record for points scored in a season, and Tom Brady will probably break the season touchdown passing record, and Randy Moss may even break the season touchdown receiving record. It is estimated that this game will be the most watched regular season football game in history.

You might think that sitting pretty well atop the entire rest of the league is a non-stressful position… but it’s not. Much is at stake beyond this single season. The Patriots have a chance to establish themselves as the best team of ALL TIME! Those chances come once every few lifetimes for a team. This is beyond trying to win the Superbowl. This is big.

So every game from now on (and there’ll probably be four of them) will be a stressfest. I can only hope that the Pats put up enough of a lead early on so that I can actually enjoy these games in their second halves. :-)
